Ahmed started his international development and NGO career since 2003 to cover diverse fields of displacement, peace and security, civil society and post-conflict nation-building. Ahmed is a co-founder of IHSCO and has been the director since 2016. He contributed to fund raising and sustainability of his national NGO with multi-million fund projects annually.

Ahmed holds MBA in Change Management and Organisational Development from Victoria University; MA in International and Community Development; and, PhD in roles of Iraqi civil society in post-conflict nation building from Deakin University. Ahmed has accumulated publications of a book chapter and over 25 articles and reports in esteemed international journals in the fields of Political Science and International Relations, Middle East studies and developmental studies.

Ahmed has been active on different advocacy activities in various international podia, including, but not limited to: disability rights, mine action, peace and security, local leadership and localisation. He presented different papers in UN and international events, meetings and conferences. He was also invited by the UN Security Council to brief them on the situation of mine action in Iraq in February 2023, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7bApk30Qu0&t=167s.
